After having worked in the Berlin office of the media law firm Brehm & von Moers in Berlin, he was recruited by the Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin and the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin in 2008, which paved the way for him to become an expert in gambling law. As Head of Legal & Compliance at mybet Holding SE, Jakob expanded his expertise in an international environment until he made a significant contribution to structuring all legal compliance issues at G2 Esports Holding GmbH, which manages some of the best Esports teams in the world under the G2 Esports brand. In addition to these activities as General Counsel, Jakob advised clients in sports and corporate law matters.
For years, Jakob has been a licensed judge at the German Sports Arbitration Court and since the beginning of December, he has additionally taken up the role of a judge at the newly founded arbitration court of the ESBD - Esport-Bund Deutschland e.V. From January 2020, MELCHERS' clients will now benefit from Jacob’s broad range of experience in the gaming, sports and esports industry.
"We are pleased to welcome a proven expert on gambling law to our team with Dr Jakob. His expertise gained from working with companies in the lottery, sports betting, casino, sports and esports sector perfectly complements our consulting practice," commented Dr Joerg Hofmann, Partner at MELCHERS.
Jakob himself says: "An exciting new challenge awaits me. MELCHERS has an outstanding reputation in gambling law. I am delighted to be able to contribute my expertise to this team. Also, my experience in sports law, including e-sports, certainly provides for an excellent basis for expanding MELCHERS' range of advisory services in this direction."
